I can't remember

I can't remember the name of the main character of most manga I read. Recently, it's even spread to the heroine of the manga I read too.

It has been years since it felt like every single day, we have new manga getting published. Years of reading so many of them changed how I read them too. Just how I'm getting used to tune out the ads on youtube. Nowadays, I’m also getting used to barely using my brain when reading most manga. Just mindlessly consume it like a snack.

And it honestly kinda scary.

For stories that I consider MEH or even Creatively Bankrupt. I don’t really mind not remembering any of their characters or even plots. For all intent and purposes, they are just snacks. Unhealthy thing that you eat because you wanted to eat something.

I do enjoy them, It’s just I don’t care about them so much I want to dedicate my brain capacity for them. But, I realized that even for manga that I consider good. I barely remember any of the characters in it too.

Here I give you an example. This is Izakaya Nobu. A cozy and warm manga about a restaurant that got connected to another world. In terms of story It doesn’t have much, but every episode brings you a warm feeling that can heal your tired mind. It was the kind of manga that makes you think, “there’s still joy in life, you just forgot them”.

I pretty much enjoyed it very much. YET, I’m unable to remember the mc’s name off the top of my head. EVEN THOUGH his name is literally on the title. It’s there, yet in my mind I refer to the three main cast as the cook, the server, and the helper.

Here is a second case.

Pseudo harem is a wholesome and funny romcom between a high school boy and his junior. It has a really interesting premise where the girl, an aspiring actress, would roleplay as a different kind of girl in front of him. Sometimes she becomes a reliable onee-chan, sometimes she is a spoiled girl, sometimes she would become a mischievous rascal, and sometimes she is tsundere.

Their interactions are so wholesome and cute I end up smiling whenever I see them together.

I liked the manga a lot, and when the anime aired. I enjoyed it very much too. But if you suddenly ask what their name is. I honestly would draw a blank. WHAT THE HELL. SERIOUSLY I CAN’T REMEMBER THEIR NAME without doing a search.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME.

Here is another sample.

Welcome to the Impregnable Demon King Castle. This one is a pioneer on making dungeon raiding as a form of entertainment. That manga where the MC goes with his former pupil? Yeah. That comes later.  I read that after I stumbled upon this piece of goddamn good story. Even at that time, the “fired from hero party” has already been saturated by many slops. I read this manga thinking it would do nothing to further the formula.

But I was wrong.

Both of them grew up admiring the heroes of legend. One guy is literally a chosen hero while one other guy is a boy trained by the strongest demon lord. (both demon lord and hero are just skill names and doesn't mean anyone is good or bad). Hearing that you may think it’s “cringe” but not.

It is absolutely touching. Especially, when both of them finally clashed. The clash of feeling between the two boys wanting to be a hero really tugged at my string.

On one hand, one has the stance that the hero can’t lose because he is a hero. And it should stay that way. That's how things should be. Even though this was just entertainment, he has the mindset like the peace of the world hinges on his existence.

Meanwhile, the others interpret that saying “the hero would never lose” as whoever standing the last would be a hero. As that is, the only way for someone like him who has no blessing as a hero can climb up to the position.

Please read it if you haven’t.

Continue on, here the last example.

I Got a New Skill Every Time I was Exiled, and After 100 Different Worlds, I was Unmatched. That manga. Man, That manga is called “The Final Frontier of Isekai”. Well, some other guy already called it “the final form of isekai”. And by the other guy, I mean this guy.

You can watch that video for a full review. But I will tell you this. I FUKKEN CRIED reading the 1st chapter. I cried again in a few chapters, And damn I cried again when he finally fulfilled his mission.

Now, considering how much I cried. It obviously left a deep impact on me. Obviously, I liked the manga a lot. And obviously I want to keep reading it. But obviously…

This one too. . . I totally forgot not only the characters name, but also the title of the manga itself. Making me unable to find it whenever I missed an update. I only know it has ``100`` in it. So even finding it is a struggle on my worst day.

Seriously, what’s wrong with me? Are their titles just simply too long? Did I just become dumber? Does my brain capacity shrink? Or did i Unconsciously tune out even the thing I Love? Treating them like all the junk I usually consume. This turned from being scary to simply sad.

Of course, there’s quite many titles that I can remember just fine. The mainstream shonen like JJK, OPM, BNHA. There’s a lot of older series that I can remember just fine too. Both the title and the characters. Recent masterpieces like frieren also screwed tight into my mind. And unique stories like Ascend of Bookworms are also unforgettable. After all, it doesn't really have any copy, saturating the market.

Also Uchinoko, It was one of the stories i Followed religiously before it ended in 2019. Griefing soul and Eminence in the shadow are and then Tearmoon. Not only are their stories interesting and funny, it also really helps that their titles and characters are simple.

For them, off the top of my head. I can list the person on the cover. From left to right. Tino, Cry, Calire, Aurora, Cid, Shion, Abel, Mia.

Wait, now that I looked at the title that I do remember clearly. Many of them have Light Novels that I read a lot. It’s actually weird If I didn’t properly remember them.
