IT ENDED AGAIN

Deathbound Duke’s Daughter and Seven Nobles is one of the earliest novels that explored the theme of “I HAVE REINCARNATED INTO VILLAINESS AND NEED TO AVOID DEATH FLAG”. And as a tale that came out more than ten years ago. It lacks the comedic touch its descendants have. But for me, that is a plus.

The tale is as you expected. She reincarnated into a villainess role that at some point is going to die because of many reasons. And as you expected in her effort to avoid the death flag, she would conquer the hero instead and make them her allies.

But unlike what you usually expect, it actually has epic tales instead of comedies that only scattered once a while throughout the story. From defeating and freeing enslaved giant evil monsters that have been sealed in the far reaches of the dungeon. Or fighting a biblically accurate angel from myth and in the process. Awakening the strongest dragon rider to ever grace the sky.

It has interesting world building where the GOD is probably some eldritch horror. Or the angels are actually just monsters. Or the history probably got altered because they don’t want to be seen as evil settlers. Or ……

Or. . . . Or. . . Or. . . I don’t know.

Everything looks and sounds interesting. But There’s only 2 Novels published and 4 manga volumes adapting the story. As the name implies, Deathbound Duke’s Daughter and Seven Nobles. The Story is supposed to involve seven noble houses at least. But there’s only 2 so far. So yes, It got AXED.

(manga version)

When I discovered that it doesn’t have any more volume, I really felt sad.

How can such good stuff not get proper publication?

But then I remembered. There’s actually more “PIONEER” stories that simply were unable to get traction and got discontinued midway. Only to be replaced by their descendants which can capture the heart of audiences better.

These stories are like Techs that stuck on a transition era and never got any adoption outside of their niche because it doesn’t fit neither the old nor the old taste of the readers. Though it sure fits my taste.

Well, the good news is the author continues to write and actually manages to finish it till the end. Not only that, we also got a translation of it. If you are interested, you can find them HERE.

By the way, another sample of stories that meet similar fate is this.

The Altruistic Saintess is Thrilled by Money

This novel is absolutely nice to read. The premise is simple, the two protagonists switched bodies. (Though we mostly focus on the boy side that now becomes girl) and they live each other's lives. But because the boy is bound by a spell where he can only speak politely. There’s countless misunderstanding around her which eventually leads turned into some tragic heroine that captivates the heart of the kingdom’s prince.

I’m really underselling it, but I don’t want to spoil it too much. I advise you to read it.

I don’t know how, but the author is so skilled at making people cry for some weird reason. So, while I came to laugh. I ended up crying again and again.

It has only 4 volumes (which correlate to the mid part of the whole series), and too bad. No official English translation of the LN either. Good news is, just like the previous series. The WN is finished and translated.

Another case of series getting left out is this.

My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending

As far as I know, the manga is still running. But the LN is paused for quite some time. And even the original web novel version is hanging for years. It gets updated once a while, but from what I can see. I’m not even sure the author would be able to finish it.

As a person who is in the same position (as in, having a project that you wanted to work on but can’t really muster the motivation). I think this story is a lost cause. It already lost its momentum.
